CDNOW

CD-Now has now won the first three Comp@re Music Retailer Survey. This is not surprising given CD-Now was the first Internet music retailer and wants to keep holding this advantage.

What impressed the judges most about CD-Now was site design. The basic page is quite simplistic with graphical navigation buttons at the top of each page, and search boxes down the bottom. Search page results will bring up a list of artists with major titles, while the discography page organises titles into Albums, Singles and Imports, and provides price details of each format. The individual Title page contains the cover art, RealAudio and MP3 samples as well as Reviews for most major titles. A nice touch is the a link to compilations that feature the artist and links to similar artists. The Genre pages also provide good reviews, suggestions and charts. CD-Now also contains the American MTV and VH1 charts.

Personalisation is a great addition to the CD-Now site. The site will set a cookie in the browser that automatically detects who you are and provides fast links to your favourite bands, as well as meaning you don't have to log in each time in order to shop.

CD-Now's pricing is competitive. They offer the standard 30% off for all major titles, and often have other specials as well either on extra titles, or an occasional extra discount. However postage costs to Australia are higher than Amazon.
